Inside North Street Gallery

North Street Gallery was started in 2018 by two friends who wanted to create a space to help local artists in their careers. The gallery is run by artists, for artists.

A community gallery

As a community gallery we help new and emerging artists to exhibit their work, often for the first time, alongside more established artists. We’ve helped lots of people to take that all-important first step. Many of them have never looked back and now exhibit in several galleries and have made significant progress in their artistic careers.

A Community Interest Company

We are a Community Interest Company (CIC). As such we pay no dividends to any shareholders. The company exists to benefit the local community, not to make a profit. Any surplus is retained within the business and used to benefit the gallery.

How the gallery works

North Street Gallery is staffed by the artists participating in the current exhibition. This gives customers and artists the opportunity to meet when they are stewarding and to discuss the work on display.

For the artists, working together like this builds a community where knowledge and experience can be shared. As we have a mix of new and established artists, we hope this helps people find their feet when they are showing their work for the first time. Some of our artists have gone on to collaborate on exhibitions and making work as a result of meeting here.

We split our year into four seasons of three months each. We have a changeover every season with some artists leaving and some new ones joining us, so you'll find there's always plenty of new work to see.
